Documentary weddings for adventurous couples

Planning an off-beat wedding? Tired of the same old photos you see in wedding magazines? Not traditional, but want to create your own traditions?

I capture couples, engagements and weddings in a truly authentic way through documentary event photography. I work with you by getting to know who you are, how you met, your quirks, to capture your story in an organic fashion.

My goal for your day is that you are able to enjoy yourselves so that when you look back on your photographs years from now, you’ll share the same feelings as though it all just happened time and time again.

OUR WEDDING

My husband and I shared a very intimate 10-person wedding at Burnaby Mountain in the Summer of 2021. We signed our papers on a little camp table, had individually boxed BBQ meals from Whisky Six BBQ for everyone and our favourite donuts from Cartems.

We kept our outfits very simple with a simple white cotton shirt and khaki shorts from Tommy Hilfiger and black leather Van’s for Ty. For me, a white tank and beige skirt from Uniqlo. My mom helped with the floral arrangements such as boutonnieres and flower crown.

Our ceremony was short & sweet followed by hanging out with loved ones (including our dog) at the park and enjoying the sunset.

Documentary capture and why it matters.

  • Tell your Story

Before your big day, it’s my goal to get to know you. I want to know how you met, what made you fall in love, the quirks you love about one another, what you love doing with each other. All these little tid bits help me document your day and look out for key moments.

  • Stress free day

A common thing couples tell me after their wedding is that they were so stressed throughout the entire event. A lot happens on your wedding day and perhaps some general event planning stress could occur. I want to be the last thing that adds to this which is why a documentary approach allows you to simply enjoy your day without me taking you away from the party. Be with loved ones, enjoy, and I’ll be there to document it.

  • Uniquely you

Just because Wedding Bells told you orange is THE colour of the season doesn’t mean you have to dawn your wedding party in orange - especially if you don’t love that colour. Your wedding day timeline doesn’t have to follow the traditional rules to a T. Want to get married overlooking a beautiful look out that’s a 20 minute trek through a trail? Do it! Want to have your party in your backyard and play spikeball with your best friends? I say do it!

  • Preserve your memories

All of us have had that smart phone that decided it no longer wanted to work anymore and it took all your photos along with it. Am I right? While I am totally for saving the trees and keeping many things digital, I believe your most important memories should be printed. Print your favourite photo of the 2 of you for your bedroom in a 24”x36” frame. Maybe a collage of all your favourite moments. No wall space? An album is an awesome way to keep your memories safe.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Working with Jamie

  • Get to know you

I’m not your “show up and shoot” photographer. The beauty of my work comes from starting a genuine relationship with you where we are on the same page and our personalities jive. Before we book dates and talk logistics, we first get to know each other. On a complimentary 30-minute phone call, we chat and share. I want to know how you met, who you are, what gets you excited and how I can create photographs you’ll love.

  • Enjoy your special day

The beauty of documentary event photography is that you are free to actually ENJOY your day. No fussing with portrait timelines, no rigid posing. Just both of you being you and enjoying your day together. I capture your day in its entirety from when I arrive until I leave and based on our pre-planning, capture the items that you know you must have in a photography.

  • Get excited to share your photos

After your event, all your images go through a curation process followed by some creative editing which align in style with all the images you see on this page. Final images get delivered on an online gallery for your convenience so you can share with loved ones, download, print and share on social media.

Hi friend, I’m Jamie. I spent the first decade and some of my photographic career capturing weddings and families. While I have since moved into the Commercial world, I am still taking on limited weddings and family sessions that align with my vision and for who are looking for a documentary style of photography.

I truly believe that this approach to photography is what will capture the essence and feeling of your milestones and events. My hope is that in 10, 20, 30, 40 years when you look back on your photographs, you will feel as though you were right there enjoying it all again.

Thanks for putting your trust in me.
