Jamie + Pixel

Pixel and I share a very special bond. If he could be on my lap 24/7, he would. He’s 1/2 chiweenie, 1/2 rat terrier and 100% bundle of energy, intensity, love, cheekiness, and often irritatingly cute. I would not trade him for the world. Being the pup of a photographer, Pix has naturally been around a studio environment in our home since he was a baby. What started with uncertain pitter-patter around the paper backdrop is now his favourite spot because he knows he’ll get some yummy treats when he sits in the right spot. It’s been wonderful documenting his journey and watching him grow into the different stages in his life.

We went into our session with Jamie hoping for a couple of nice photos of us and Hugo, but honestly, I wasn’t sure how much we’d get. Hugo is old, blind, and mostly deaf, and photo sessions aren’t exactly designed for that stage of life.

Jamie completely exceeded our expectations. She was patient, calm, and somehow managed to capture him exactly as he is. Not just what he looks like, but his spirit. That’s not easy to do, especially with a senior dog who can’t see or hear cues.

What I loved most was how unhurried it felt. There was no pressure, no stress, just this steady, kind presence that made all of us feel comfortable.

Seeing the images printed is something else entirely. They feel like a time capsule. At this stage in Hugo’s life, that means more than I can really put into words.

I’m so grateful we did it, thank you, Jamie!!

  • While I do love a good black + white portrait, you can choose to have your session delivered in colour.

  • Dress in clothing that makes you feel good and comfortable. Some guidance can be offered once we book your session

  • The studio can come to you as long as you have at least a 15’x15’ area of space in your home. This usually means a spare room in your home or the ability to shuffle some furniture out of your living room to make space.

  • I operate out of a studio out of Burnaby near Lake City Way.

  • Come with some of your dog’s favourite treats. Be sure not to give too many before your session if they are treat motivated. This will help us out during your session. Bring any favourite toys that may help us get their attention.

Each dog should have 1 wrangler. If you have 2 dogs coming to be photographed, there should be 2 wranglers present. Basically 1 hooman to every dog.

  • These sessions are being considered on a case by case basis. I’d love to photograph you and your pet but need to make sure we have a conversation first as every animal may have different needs. Please reach out at info@jamiepoh.com

  • I have worked with a few animals that are terrified of the camera. It is ideal that we have a conversation about this to ensure your pet’s safety and well being. Stressing your pet out is the last thing I want to do however having a pet that can listen is ideal to achieving a specific set of portraits.
